FAQS

What are the different types of networks?
Networks are classified based on their geographical size and purpose.

  • Personal Area Network (PAN): Connects devices within a short range, typically for a single person. For example, Bluetooth headphones connected to a smartphone.
  • Local Area Network (LAN): Connects devices within a limited area, like a home, office building, or campus.
  • Metropolitan Area Network (MAN): Covers a city or large campus and typically links multiple LANs. A city's cable television network is one example.
  • Wide Area Network (WAN): Spans a large geographical area, such as a country or continent, and connects multiple LANs and MANs. The internet is the largest example of a WAN.
  • Virtual Private Network (VPN): Extends a private network across a public one (like the internet) to enable remote workers to access internal systems securely.

What is the purpose of DNS?
The Domain Name System (DNS) translates domain names like www.google.com into IP addresses, which machines can read.
